Over the years, during my treks through the COV, I have discovered hidden remnants of the past. Crumbling walls, concrete blocks jutting from the earth, steps leading into the dense undergrowth. Right here in our fair city! These are the ruins of Covington's past that I have discovered so far. (I'm having some issues with the layout of the images, so some have been warped as far as size. Please click on the images and view them as a slideshow for optimal viewing.)
Most are from the fringes of the city. An old green house at the southern end of Oakland Avenue. Remnants of industrial structures along the Licking River. Overgrown steps leading from Western Avenue up the hill to the Devou Park overlook. They are beautiful and haunting. Very cool stuff!
However, I am always looking for more.
So, if anyone knows of other hidden treasures please leave a comment or send me a message. I'd love to hear of your own discoveries that I can investigate.
One caveat:
I am not looking for vacant buildings! These are not necessarily ruins and they are not the face of Covington. Every city has vacant buildings, so let's just accept that they are something we must live with for the time being and that they will eventually be dealt with one way or the other.
